Spilman Hotel

36 Spilman St, Carmarthen SA31 1LQ, UK – 01267 237037

This was the second time that my wife and I have stayed here in room 14.We had booked to see Carrie the musical at the Lyric theatre, but unfortunately we should have been in Llanelli,so there was a bit of confusion there. We still had a lovely day walking around Carmarthen regardless, and our room was immaculate once again. The bed is so comfortable and the fan at the bedside was greatly appreciated as it was a very hot day. Thank you to the man on reception who gave us a very warm welcome and we had a nice chat. We also mentioned that we had to leave early the next morning as I was running Swansea half marathon so we were assured that an earlier breakfast would be possible. Very friendly waitress, very smiley and had a pleasant disposition.Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Looking forward to returning in the very near future.:)

Conveniently located in centre of Carmarthen. Well maintained with clean room with all facilities included. Very friendly staff. Lovely experience from arrival to departure. Breakfast was first class, multiple choices and all cooked fresh for you. Although in centre of town, there was no noise and a peaceful sleep could be had. Access to car park was a little tight but perfectly manageable with care as stated in hotel details. Evening meals not served at hotel but staff gave directions to local recommended restaurants.

Ivy Bush Royal Hotel

11 Spilman St, Carmarthen SA31 1LG, UK – 01267 235111

I stayed here on a coach holiday. The hotel has traditional charm but is rather faded and in need of renovation. I liked the fact that it is just a short walk from the town centre. Also very convenient for the motorway. I had a single room, it was a bit cramped and the shower was not working properly - the water was too hot and I could not get it to cool down - but the reception staff were very helpful and the matter was dealt with promptly. Very comfortable bed, bedding and towels spotlessly clean, but the room had no air conditioning and was uncomfortably hot. There's an outside terrace and well stocked bar, barman very friendly, drinks quite expensive, £5.95 for a medium glass of wine. Good buffet-style breakfast. Not always satisfied with evening meal - delicious starters and desserts, but the main course was not always well cooked, we were served hard roast potatoes one evening, and not enough vegetables to go round. The hotel did make up for this on the last evening, the meal was much better and we were given a free glass of wine and entertainment. But generally could have been better!

Quite a nice old feeling hotel, tucked away down a side street. It can be hard to miss but if unsure, Satnav will direct you there. I didn't stay at the hotel, I was picking family up from there and had dinner with them. Nice food, pleasant staff, free parking if staying or visiting the hotel, there is a touch screen pad that you enter your vehicle registration on. There was a nice atmosphere at the hotel but I would say, it is more for the older age group.

Boar's Head

120 Lammas St, Carmarthen SA31 3AE, UK – 01267 222789

Went with family for lunch on a Monday. Food was very good quality, friendly staff. Carvery was available, which looked very nice but I really enjoyed the special - salmon souffle. Menu is basic but doesn't need to be overcomplicated as it is a traditional pub/hotel and it's nice that it isn't a chain and serves local beer.

Stayed one night - twin room was tidy and nice on the street side. Wasn't too loud and wasn't disturbed but was a quiet Friday. Staff were friendly and nice, didn't eat in restaurant. Reasonably priced, free parking too was very useful and a good central location. Only gets a 4 as few little things like toilet seat a bit iffy, could be slow to get staff attention/find someone at times and towels were quite badly worn in places.

Booking.com offers competitive rates for any type of hotel, from small independent hotels to a five star luxury ones. The site is available in 24 languages and offers over 71000 hotels in 71 countries. Could be useful for you. There are of course several such sites.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

The b&b is very close to shops and takeaway. The owner is very nice, welcoming and even prepared plates and cutlery for us since we said we will just buy some chinese takeaway for our dinner. Room and bathroom is very clean. Price is very affordable.

Awesome place

Baytree Bed & Breakfast

Maesglasnant, Cwmffrwd, Carmarthen SA31 2LS, UK – 01267 236110

We stayed at Baytree for two night break this year and had a wonderful time. Loraine and Martin (the owners) made us feel very welcome in their beautiful house. The room was bright, roomy and luxurious and the welcome welsh cake was a lovely added touch. The Bed and Breakfast itself is situated in a great place to explore a number of places within Carmarthenshire which we did on our stay. Both days we were set up for the day with a delicious breakfast. Recommend highly for romantic getaways or for work stays.

My partner and I spent 4 nights here. It was lovely! very warm and friendly owners. Very special little touches that made our experience there a real blessing. Much attention to detail had been given! We have already booked to go back next year.

We run an Airbnb bed and breakfast down in Devon (house below) - and we have stayed in Airbnb accommodation all over the place. You can find the wonderful little gems with totally committed hosts and really frightful places which you put down to experience! You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
